Town lose at home to Orient.
If last weekend’s defeat at AFC Wimbledon Ladies was a blip Sunday’s chastening 0-4 home reverse to Leyton Orient WFC represents a major setback, as Luton Town Ladies were comprehensively beaten by their East-London visitors at Stockwood Park.
The O’s put four past Town at the beginning of the month- knocking them out of the FA WPL Cup with a 2-4 victory- and used a similar formula to achieve success in the league this time around.
Nikki Baker’s side were dealt an early warning when Belen Ripoll Douton fired narrowly over after a well-worked move down the right. The Hatters were punished soon enough however- Sarka Stryhalova latching onto Egle Trezzi’s through ball before guiding the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to give Orient the lead.
She had her second fifteen minutes later tapping in from close range. Sophie Le Marchand provided that goal and scored herself as she volleyed one into the bottom corner to complete a dismal half for The Hatters.
The hosts improved after the interval as they sought to rescue a match that had drifted so quickly away from them.
Any faint hopes of a comeback were quashed though midway through the second period. Substitute Chanel Richards converting where Le Marchand could not, to put the seal on a comfortable win for Orient and a damaging defeat for Town.
There is no denying the quality Leyton Orient possess- their 9-0 demolition of Enfield Town Ladies is indicative of that. But irrespective of that Town are capable of much more and will look to improve at home to Milton Keynes Dons FC Ladies at Stockwood Park next Sunday, KO 2pm.
